What We Expect In You

What is attractive about working at Fixstars. What kind of people the company looking for. And, what is expected from people joining Fixstars, our executives will gladly answer these questions.

Q.What is attractive about working at Fixstars?
A.That would be the opportunity for challenging innovations, first and foremost.

Japan's strength is in process innovations, but it has been said to be weak in products innovations. Japanese IT industry is no exception, instead of introducing bold innovative new features, the focus has been on keeping costs down, being precise, and being on time. However, what we are challenging now with the multicore culture and software that runs on Cell hardware precisely resides on that paradigm, where a talented engineer can unleash one's powers, as much talent as he or she has in reserve. Cell solutions can realize 100 fold improvements for existing systems, and it has the power to drastically alter business models.

These opportunities only come once every few decades, and this is probably the greatest opportunity since Google's Web 2.0 revolution in the United States. That is the greatest attraction.
Q.What kind of people are you looking for?
A.“Smart” & “Speedy”

“Smart” is not about academic backgrounds. I am not out here to deny University of Tokyo graduates (laughs). Instead of the ability to cram knowledge, I value curiosity and tenacity when tackling issues, and the ability to think simply and logically. And this being a start up firm, we do not need any “sheep” who wait for instructions. It is important to be an agile and motivated self-starter.

For example, apart from multicore engineers, we are in need of entrepreneurial leaders, management planning staff, and human resources managers. We expect people in these positions, not just the engineers, to be innovative leaders. This should be a new, challenging, and exciting job opportunity for you.
Q.What do you expect from people joining Fixstars?
A.To always be learning, and do not be afraid to challenge, and to always have pride.

Once you enter a company and the work starts to get busy, it is easy to get lost in the short-term work, but more is expected from you. Even when you're busy, make the time to learn new things.

And do not be afraid to take on new research subjects and new types of work, always be positive when thinking and working. By actively challenging and innovating, there will be moments when you're far removed from conventional wisdom. It is important to be bold in moments like this, do not think negatively to coming up with excuses.

And lastly, I want you to always have pride. Every time I read or hear about startup companies and their corporate scandals, I am amazed at their weak will, and that further strengthens the resolve that I have about our company and employees, and how we will never follow in their steps, we will always have the pride of being engineers, Fixstars members, and will never do anything that we cannot be proud about.

1988: Graduated from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Tokyo and joined Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. where he embarked on investigations into SME business planning and valuation policy, and consulted on advanced technologies in those areas.
